Family health history seminar in Perth could save lives

Posted
by DPS

Families share many things, including genes, environment and lifestyle, all of which can contribute to getting a disease. For some diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers, knowing if they tend to “run in the family” can be a sign that you are more at risk.

The Department of Health is running a series of free seminars over the next three months for people interested in learning more about collecting a family health history.

The first seminar will be on 28 March at 10 am at Osborne Park Community Centre.

For more information or to register for this or a later seminar, please contact Joanna Brisbane on (08) 9323 6641 or genomics@health.wa.gov.au

Resources to help in the collection of a family health history are available from www.genomics.health.wa.gov.au/education
