Expanding residential care services

Victorian aged care provider, Southern Cross Care (Vic), has expanded its residential services with the acquisition of an aged care home in Rosebud, on the Mornington Peninsula.

Victorian aged care provider, Southern Cross Care (Vic), has expanded its residential services with the acquisition of an aged care home in Rosebud, on the Mornington Peninsula.

In April, SCC (Vic) took possession of the 50 place Rosebud Residential Aged Care Service, previously owned and managed by Peninsula Health.

Announcing the purchase, SCC (Vic) chief executive, Jan Horsnell, said the organisation was pleased to add the Rosebud home to its list of quality residential homes.

“We are excited to be able to offer older people living on the Mornington Peninsula SCC (Vic)’s own brand of aged care that focuses on healthy, active ageing supported by outstanding services and programs,” Ms Horsnell said.

“Plans are already underway to rebuild the home and increase it by an additional 70 places,” she said, adding that the development was expected to be completed by 2016.

“SCC (Vic) is committed to expanding and redeveloping the home to both increase the range of aged care services available to the Peninsula community, and to provide increased employment opportunities for locals.”

The announcement comes at a time of exciting residential redevelopment and expansion for the aged care provider.

SCC (Vic) will next month open its first residential home to be built in more than five years at Keon Park, in Melbourne’s north, while in 2014 SCC (Vic) will redevelop its Dandenong home into a $22 million state of the art redevelopment that will see the existing 52 place home and 10 independent living units replaced with a 120 place home, featuring a range of innovative and visionary services.

Ms Horsnell said a key feature of both the Keon Park and Dandenong developments would be a series of ‘‘homes within the home’’, each featuring its own kitchen, dining and lounge area and dedicated team of staff. Both will also include a range of technological features, including ‘smart’ televisions in every room and free Wi-Fi for wireless internet connection.

“All our residential homes are based on a philosophy that aims to make ageing a positive experience. We look to take an individualised approach to care and support with an emphasis on enabling residents to live as independently as possible.”
