Excellence in the WA aged care industry
The winners of the 2015 Aged and Community Services WA (ACSWA) Excellence in Care Awards have been announced at a capacity filled gala event attended by leading volunteers, employers and staff from across the Western Australian not-for-profit aged and community services sector.

ACSWA chief executive, Trevor Lovelle, says ACSWA’s annual Excellence in Care Awards is an important opportunity to celebrate excellence across the not-for-profit aged and community care industry.
“On behalf of the ACSWA Board, I would like to sincerely congratulate the winners of the 2015 Excellence in Care Awards for their outstanding contributions to our industry and the community,” Mr Lovelle says.
“Aged and community care providers are at the heart of many WA communities, and tonight provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the great work and achievements of staff, volunteers, trainees and organisations from across the not-for-profit sector who work with passion to deliver the highest possible service to meet the care needs of many Western Australians.”
ACSWA received a record number of nominations for this year’s awards, demonstrating the widespread commitment to helping people age well in WA.
Winners of the 2015 ACSWA Excellence in Care Awards include Southern Cross Care’s Germanus Kent House, based in the Kimberley, which is meeting the challenging care needs of a remote Kimberley community while respecting and honouring the distinct cultural needs of its clients, (with a particular focus on country or Buru).
In addition an exceptional SwanCare volunteer, Laurie Hudson, was recognised in the Volunteer category for his commitment to volunteering more than 30 hours a week in his local community in roles ranging from bus driving, pitching in with sausage sizzles and donning the maintenance cap, through to emceeing special events in his gold tuxedo,.
The Aged and Community Excellence Award was presented to Carole Bain, a 25 year veteran with Silver Chain, who is an industry leader shaping the future of community care services in the bush from the Western Desert to Eucla.
Other winners included trainee, Renee Reid, from Braemar Presbyterian Care, who is changing her workforce with innovative communication techniques known as Ontological Coaching; and employee, Bianca Briggs from Brightwater Care Group, who is a master practitioner in the “Spark of Life Program”, supporting care workers who assist people with dementia.
