Elder abuse help for Queensland seniors
Seniors concerned about elder abuse and financial exploitation can access free legal and support services in Brisbane, Cairns, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba and Townsville.
The centres are staffed by solicitors and social workers and provide:
- legal information and advice;
- short term counselling;
- individual advocacy and community education.
Examples of assistance include:
- obtaining domestic violence protection orders;
- developing safety plans;
- support to relocate to a place of safety; and
- information on protective strategies to manage assets and stop financial abuse.
They can also help with advocacy on behalf of a resident of a retirement village subject to unfair contract terms and conditions, give advice on appointing or revoking a Power of Attorney, and help with recovery of property or money.
