Eggs ok for a normal healthy diet
The humble egg has been given a health reprieve with saturated fat, which is mainly found in butter and animal fats, being found more guilty of making cholesterol in the blood supply increase.
Previously eggs were being criticised for their dietary impact because of the cholesterol content in their yolks but now it is established that the fat in eggs is only around five grams with half of that being unsaturated and a counterbalance to cholesterol’s artery clogging effects.
The Heart Foundation of Australia believes that eggs are nutritious, and packed with protein, vitamins, and antioxidants.
They are one of the rare food sources of vitamin D which is often lacking in many Australians.
The only egg concern is for people who already have a high cholesterol level. For those who already have heart concerns or are at risk because of high blood cholesterol then there needs to be a limit to the eggs on their menu. Otherwise, for healthy people, up to four eggs a week is regarded as a positive, not a negative.
