Everyone knows someone with a mental health problem, so it helps to know what support is available.

Silver Chain Mental Health Education and Advisory Program offers free mental health education sessions to support primary carers, community groups, as well as health and community service providers who support people with mental health disorders.

“Our Mental Health Education and Advisory Program enhances the knowledge and ability of those caring and responsible for people with mental health illnesses,”  says Margaret Darby, Silver Chain’s mental health educator.

Based in Western Australia, Silver Chain provides aged, disabled and terminally ill people with personal health care services

For more than a year, Silver Chain has been working closely with the WA Country Health Service in providing education about mental health to areas in the state including Wheatbelt, Carnarvon, Port Headland, Karratha and the Kimberley.

The team has also formed a working relationship with Fremantle Multicultural Centre which educates families and carers of different cultures.

The last financial year saw the program assist 743 families and carers, as well as 1,905 people who undertook training as part of their workforce development.

The program is available to carers of individuals with mental health problems and runs every weekday from 8.30am to 5pm in most areas of Western Australia.

“Passionate about what they do, our mental health nurses are very experiencedand have backgrounds in inpatient and community nursing, as well as in the education system training student nurses,” Ms Darby says.

For more information, contact Silver Chain on (08) 9242 0242 or 1300 363 104 for country callers (at the cost of a local call).
