Doris celebrates 103rd birthday
Magill Retirement Village resident Doris Parsons turned 103 on Thursday. A birthday certainly worth celebrating.
Residents and staff helped Doris celebrate her birthday with a lovely afternoon tea on Thursday in the village community centre.
After 103 fantastic years, Doris is modest about the secret to her longevity. “I don’t know really, probably good luck!” she says. “I’ve always kept busy my whole life.”
Doris was born in the rural town of Peterborough in 1912 and has enjoyed a long, vibrant life filled with family and friends. She was a homemaker and raised four children in addition to caring for her ageing parents.
Doris and her husband Ron were regular travellers, taking yearly trips to explore Australia up until two or three years before Ron’s passing in 2013.
After enjoying life in an independent living unit at nearby Tea Tree Gardens for over 20 years, Doris recently made the move into a supported living unit at Magill Estate and hasn’t looked back since. “I like living here – they look after you well,” she says.
Residents and staff helped Doris celebrate her birthday with a lovely afternoon tea on Thursday in the village community centre. Guests enjoyed a slice of delicious chocolate cake and sang a rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ to welcome Doris into her 103rd year.
She also enjoyed a gathering with family members on Saturday and says that she has thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations.
