Discount train travel for seniors
All Australians holding State or Territory Seniors Cards will now become eligible for 25% travel concessions when booking train trips on the Ghan, the Indian Pacific, or the Overland.
The recent decision by the Rudd Government means that new concession fare privileges are now available to those State or Territory Seniors Card holders who are ineligible to receive pension or Commonwealth Seniors health card entitlements.
The concession savings amount to a maximum of 25% off the standard everyday fare on bookings made from 1 June 2009, in both gold and red service on great Southern Rail’s train journeys. However potential travellers now with Seniors cards do have to pre-register to obtain a unique Great Southern Rail seniors concession travel card.
The registrations can be made by contacting Great Southern Rail on 1800 888 417 or by sending Senior card details and personal addresses along with photocopies of the card and ID proof – such as driver’s licence – to Great Southern Rail, Seniors Concession Travel, PO Box 490, Hindmarsh, South Australia, 5007.
