Carers for hundreds of people with a disability will now have access to extra help to continue caring for loved ones in their homes.

The NSW government will spend $3 million on an extra 375 flexible respite places through Sydney and across the state. Each place equates to 160 hours of respite care each year.

Minister for Disability Services, Andrew Constance, says the funding will be targeted to those in immediate need.

“Carers make enormous sacrifices for their loved ones and the NSW government is committed to supporting them by ensuring the appropriate supports are in place,” Mr Constance says in a statement.

“Not only will this investment give carers a well-earned break, it will improve the lives of people with disability, allowing them to take part in a range of social and recreational programs through their service providers.

“Building the capacity of local communities and developing a more inclusive society are positive steps towards meeting the existing unmet need of the families we support.”
