Depression and cardiovascular disease grants

Posted
by DPS

The Heart Foundation and beyondblue: the national depression initiative, have announced $5 million in research funding to investigate the links between depression and cardiovascular disease.

Grants of up to five years duration for between $10,000 and $1 million will be awarded to researchers who would like to pursue research in this area.

This new research funding aims to increase the evidence base for the relationship between the two conditions and help inform treatment options.

beyondblue’s research adviser and expert on chronic illness and depression, Professor David Clarke, said: “This is a great step forward. Heart disease is the leading cause of death and depression is the leading cause of disability. It makes sense that the Heart Foundation and beyondblue are joining forces on research in this area that combines body and mind.”

The closing date for Expressions of Interest for this grant funding is 5.00pm, Monday 15 October 2007.
