Dental Hygiene Link to High Cholesterol
A common ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash can cause high cholesterol
which, increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, according to an ageing
researcher in Sydney.
Victoria Cogger, a medical researcher with the Centre for Ageing and the
ANZAC Research Institute in Sydney, says that a flavourless additive
Poloxamer -407 (P407)- coated cells that control cholesterol levels in
mouse livers , adding to a tenfold increase in levels.
P407 is a detergent added to toothpaste and mouthwash to help mix the
ingredients
