Dementia awareness month
No time to lose is the theme of Dementia Awareness Month from 8 September – 8 October. 2006 marks the centenary of the discovery of Alzheimer’s Disease when Dr Alois Alzheimer first described the condition that bears his name.
As part of the centenary Alzheimer’s Australia has produced a special publication: 100 years of Alzheimer’s – towards a world without dementia.
The theme No time to lose is a call for urgent action by governments and communities everywhere to improve the care and treatment of people with dementia, increase funding for medical research and encourage healthy lifestyles and habits to help reduce the risk of dementia.
Every seven seconds somewhere in the world there is a new case of dementia. The dementia epidemic has arrived,” said Glenn Rees the National Executive Director of Alzheimer’s Australia.
