Darwin’s first private retirement village opens
The first residents of Darwin’s largest modern-era nursing home have moved into their new residence. This was the first stage of the Top End’s only private retirement village.
Forty senior Territorians made the move from the Darwin Nursing Home into the 85-bed extension of Masonic Homes’ Tiwi Gardens Lodge.
When the $35 million project is completed, the community will be the largest in the Northern Territory, with assisted and independent living options.
As well as a fourth wing of the Lodge extension, construction is nearing completion on 34 villas at the new independent living village, the new Day Therapy Services and Community Care Centre, and administration offices, which are expected to be commissioned during the next month.
