Couples rooms ease transition into aged care
Elderly couples looking for aged care options in New South Wales now have the option to stay together, in spacious, newly renovated couples suites at McKenzie’s Heritage Lodge Aged Care in Murwillumbah.
Many aged care providers don’t cater for couples and partners get separated once moving into a home, adding to the stress and anxiety of settling into a new environment.
“So often the choices are limited to separate rooms and rarely together,” says Heritage Lodge Regional Client Relations Manager Karen Secombe.
She says the new couples rooms offer a solution for long term partners to stay together, resulting in a much healthier transition into aged care.
“It is very comforting not to be parted after long and happy marriages, which can be daunting and stressful.”
Ms Secombe says the rooms would also be suitable for a single person leaving a very large home who finds single rooms too small for a lifetime of furniture, paintings and other personal belongings.
The six suites are all freshly renovated and have designer furnishings with large windows looking out onto green landscapes.
With the additional space there is now room for a sofa, table, tub chairs and a large television with the benefit of an ensuite.
