COTA (NSW) welcomes Towards 2030: Planning for our changing population

Council on the Ageing (COTA) NSW welcomes the NSW Government’s release of Towards 2030: Planning for our Changing Population.

“The release of the NSW Government’s ageing strategy is timely,” said Jon Bisset, executive director of COTA (NSW).  “We know the population of NSW is ageing and strategies must be put in place to meet the challenges.

“An ageing population means an ageing workforce.  COTA (NSW) wants to see the NSW government follow through on its promises to help retain and re-skill older people who want to work beyond retirement age.

“We also would like them to deliver better health and aged care services which older people require.  Also older carers looking after children with disabilities and grandparents caring for their grandchildren want to see the government introduce practical measures to assist them in their roles.

“Although the NSW population is ageing, older people are not a burden on society and make a valuable contribution.  An ageing population presents opportunities and is not a crisis,” said Mr Bisset.
