Consumer organisations invited to attend health summit

Consumer organisations are invited to attend a summit in Canberra on 30-31 July to help decide on reform for Australia’s health care system.

The Australian Health Care Reform Alliance (AHCRA), which is organising the conference, believes that despite good health outcomes overall, the current system fails Indigenous people, those in remote areas and those living on low incomes or who are otherwise disadvantaged.

Quality and safety issues, as well as shifting the overwhelming emphasis away from hospital-based acute care services and doing more to promote health and prevent illness as the burden of chronic disease continues to increase, are also issues to be considered.

This public event is open to anyone interested in maintaining Australia’s reputation as a country that gives a fair go to all – and in applying this maxim to health services and health outcomes.

Some assistance is available for bona fide consumer organisations to attend.
