Construction of new Presbyterian Aged Care community starts
Construction has started on a new seniors living development in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney.
The $180 million development is the largest project ever undertaken by owner and operator Presbyterian Aged Care (PAC) in New South Wales.
Once completed, The Terraces at Paddington will replace the existing 88 bed residential aged care facility with a new 100 bed facility including a 23-bed dementia unit.
A new retirement village will include 70 new seniors’ independent living units across four new buildings. The original Scottish Hospital heritage building on the Brown Street site will be converted into nine seniors’ apartments, with heritage features such as the terraced gardens retained and restored.
The project is a collaboration between builder Brookfield Multiplex and Presbyterian Aged Care.
“We look forward to offering many exciting accommodation options to the growing number of seniors in the community,” says David Ghannoum, regional managing director of Brookfield Multiplex.
PAC chief executive officer Paul Sadler says: “The Terraces at Paddington brings a world-renowned builder and some of Australia’s most talented design professionals together with one of the most experienced church aged care operators in NSW. The result promises to be breathtaking.”
Completion of the entire project is expected by early 2019. The existing aged care building remains open during Stage One and all existing residents and staff will transfer to the new aged care building once complete.
