Construction milestones in VIC & WA
The hard work and commitment of the people of Ballarat has been rewarded with the official start of construction on the new $56.5 million Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre.
The Member for Ballarat and Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King, turned the first sod on the project.
The Federal Government is contributing $42 million to the centre, with the Victorian Government supporting the development with a further $14.5 million.
The new, regional integrated cancer centre being built at the Ballarat Base Hospital will include two new linear accelerators, four radiation oncology bunkers, four additional chemotherapy chairs and a computed tomography (CT) scanner.
“People from the region will have improved access to the right care at the right time, as close as possible to home and family,” Ms King said.
$2.7 million palliative care addition to Kalgoorlie Health Campus
West Australian Health Minister, Kim Hames, has opened a modern palliative care addition, part of the phase one of the $55.8million upgrade of the Kalgoorlie Health Campus.
Dr Hames said the $2.7million addition included three home style purpose-built rooms for the exclusive use of palliative care patients to provide greater patient comfort and privacy.
“This is a very important addition to the Kalgoorlie Health Campus and is of great benefit to Goldfields families needing palliative services,” Dr Hames said.
Each room has its own ensuite, private courtyard and fold-out sofa bed available for family, friends or carers to stay overnight with their loved ones.
A separate lounge room and a private meeting room are available for use by patients and their visitors, who have easy access to the new addition from nearby car parks.
