Conference welcomes launch of state residential care policy
Aged and Community Care Victoria (ACCV) chief executive officer, Gerard Mansour, has welcomed the Minister for Senior Victorians, Lisa Neville’s launch of the Victorian government residential aged care policy at the peak industry body’s Aged Care Congress in June.
The Victorian government will continue to play an important role in providing residential aged care services to approximately 6,000 senior Victorians, with a key focus on rural and remote Victoria.
As part of the launch, the Minister noted all residential aged and community care services, including both the private and not-for-profit sectors, have an important social role in their communities.
“ACCV applauds the confirmation by the Minister, that the Victorian government will implement planning reform to reduce the length of time between bed allocations and the construction of aged care homes. This is an important planning commitment which is in the interests of the older Victorians and their families”, said Mr Mansour.
ACCV welcomed the Minister’s announcement of an impending whole-of-government plan for ageing, in response to senior Victorians’ need to access aged and community care services, as well as other crucial services including housing and transport.
“The imminent release of the Victorian government plan for ageing provides an important opportunity for the aged and community care industry to work in partnership with the state government to advance the key strategic, planning and viability needs of the industry,” said Mr Mansour.
ACCV is the single voice for the aged care industry in Victoria for residential and community aged care, as well as retirement or independent living.
