Older workers in Western Australia (WA) have achieved a victory after the state government ended discrimination in the workers’ compensation system.
Under the current scheme workers aged 64 or older are only entitled to a maximum of 12 months of income payments.
Under the new system they will be entitled to up to $175,000 compensation, including medical costs, the same as younger workers.
The new system also removes a bar on workers over 65 claiming compensation for noise-induced hearing loss.
