Community organisations benefit from 2008 Volunteer Grants Program
More than 7,200 community organisations across the country will benefit from $21 million in Australian Government funding for volunteer grants, announced recently by Jenny Macklin, the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
The Volunteer Grants Program 2008 will support about 900,000 volunteers and assist organisations to buy small equipment and sporting items, to train volunteers, and to help with fuel costs.
Under the program, grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organisations.
Keep Australia Beautiful will receive $35,000 to supply 5,000 grey nomad retirees travelling across Australia with an ‘Outback Pack’ to support litter collection on highways.
St Vinnies has more than 18,000 volunteers in NSW, providing valuable support through its Vinnies Centres and shops, and homeless, migrant and refugee services. Australian Government funding of more than $125,000 will assist around 5,682 St Vinnies volunteers across the state.
