Clinical technology centre opens at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne
An Australian first facility for testing new healthcare technologies has been opened in Melbourne’s The Alfred Hospital.
Victorian Innovation Minister, John Brumby, opened the $10 million Centre for Health Innovation, where new products can be tested in a “near clinical environment”.
A trial of new patient identification tags which emit a radio frequency is already under way.
“The new centre will enable companies to test and evaluate new products and services…within a near clinical environment without any risk to patient safety,” Mr Brumby said.
Vocera Communications will be one of the first healthcare technologies to be evaluated in the Centre. The system enables instant, hands-free conversation throughout a hospital building or campus. It consists of system software and a lightweight, voice-controlled Badge.
