We know many Australians love to drink, but an iPhone app which gives a shocking portrayal of alcohol’s ageing effect may make some people think twice about having another beer.

The phone app shows the impact alcohol has on personal appearance, with the aim reportedly to “shock people into drinking just a little bit less”.

Scottish creator Auriole Price says he wanted to portray how consuming excessive amounts of alcohol can give people poor skin, brittle nails and hair, disrupted sleep and poor mental health – including more serious problems such as chronic liver disease.

Available for free download this month, Mr Price worked with Scotland’s government to launch the app, which he says will hopefully appeal to “people’s vanity” as the effects of alcohol can include red broken veins on the cheeks, bloodshot eyes, a bloated face and deeper wrinkles.”

The app was created to encourage Scots, particularly women, to be alert of their alcohol consumption and to help them make changes in how much they drink.

Will Mr Price’s efforts to show the role alcohol plays in rapid ageing have an effect on Australians? Share your thoughts by commenting in the box below.
