After four years guiding the Royal District Nursing Service, Steve Muggleton, will take up the role of chief executive at another care provider.

Mr Muggleton has guided RDNS through an extraordinary period of success, growing the iconic but once Melbourne based organisation into a national and international healthcare group of multiple companies, a full spectrum of health and home care services, an internationally recognised research Institute and a high calibre education and training facility.

Mr Muggleton says that his time at RDNS has provided a period of great challenges, but enormous satisfaction, citing the establishment of RDNS HomeCare across Australia, the growth of RDNS New Zealand, substantial growth in new markets such as home care packages, and RDNS’ entry into the Asian arena as some of his key achievements.

In addition, he has developed the RDNS Institute into a leading research facility concerned with the investigation of chronic disease and community health, and overhauled RDNS service delivery and clinical models to accommodate a changing customer and encompass modern nursing and telehealth practices.

“I am very privileged to have lead RDNS throughout the last four years but a natural transition period has emerged and my strong feeling is that it is the right time for fresh leadership to take RDNS into its next phase,” Mr Muggleton says.

“I am proud to be leaving the organisation in a substantially evolved and agile state, excellent financial health, and strongly positioned for the future. From that point of view, I have achieved the aims that brought me to RDNS,” he adds.

RDNS chairman, Paul Montgomery, praises Mr Muggleton for “meeting the challenges RDNS has faced head on, with clarity and conviction”.

“Steve has been the leader that RDNS needed at a critical time in our history and an important time of change and uncertainty in our industry,” Mr Montgomery says.

“His achievements of innovating and growing this organisation are recognised with heartfelt appreciation by me and my fellow Board Members – we will be sorry to see him leave RDNS.

“However, we acknowledge his belief that a major and crucial chapter at RDNS has been completed, and that the time for a new challenge has emerged for him. We respect that and support him in his decision,” he says.

Transition details regarding Mr Muggleton’s departure from RDNS are to be finalised shortly.
