Celebrating 30 years ‘young’
Wahroonga Retirement Village is celebrating 30 years of caring for the Biloela community this month. It will mark the occasion with an open day, a bull riding competition, a fete and a dinner. The aged care service’s manager, Lorna Perrett, invited the community to get involved in the events and enjoy the fun.

The aged care service’s manager, Lorna Perrett, invited the community to get involved in the events and enjoy the fun.
“Come and help us celebrate 30 years of providing quality aged care to the Callide and Dawson Valley,” she said.
Ms Perrett said the service recently had undergone a facelift and she looked forward to showcasing the village.
An open day will be held on Wednesday, 12 September from 10am to 2pm, where the community care invited on a tour of the village.
A funfilled anniversary banquet dinner featuring live entertainment and memorabilia will be held the following day at Biloela ANZAC Memorial Club from 6.30pm.
On 14 September, Wahroonga will hold a fete featuring home baked goodies, fresh local produce, beautiful handmade crafts, giftware and clothing.
Among the attendees will be resident and famous artist, Hazel Mann, who has been colouring the cultural life of Biloela for decades since her time as a founding member of the Brigalow Arts Festival Committee.
About 30 paintings decorate the walls of the service where she continues to find the inspiration to further develop her talents.
“When you come to Wahroonga it doesn’t take long to become one of the family and the people working here are very good,” she said.
Former World War II Prisoner of War, Fred Medhurst, will also be attending the events. He moved to Biloela in 1947 when the population was about 2,500.
“There are close to 7,000 residents who live here now and a wide range of shops,” he said.
“I moved to Wahroonga Retirement Village in 2008 and the people here are very friendly. I live in a villa and my wife is in the nursing home so it’s very handy.
“Biloela is a good place to live and it’s only an hour and a half to Rockhampton.”
