Celebrate Our Cultural Diversity Week in Victoria

Privacy Victoria is sponsoring the 2007 Celebrate Our Cultural Diversity Week (17-23 March 2007) which aims to protect cultural diversity, actively oppose racism and to foster interfaith dialogue and cooperation among Victorians of different faiths.

“Privacy Victoria’s sponsorship aims to raise awareness among Victoria’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities about privacy laws and about the role of the Victorian Privacy Commissioner,” Helen Versey, Acting Privacy Commissioner, said.

Three laws combine to give Victorians privacy protection. The Information Privacy Act (Vic), covers personal information held by Victorian public sector agencies and local councils, the Health Records Act (Vic) covers health information in Victorian public and private sectors, and the Privacy Act (Cth), covers Federal government agencies and much of the private sector.

Information in 10 community languages is available from www.privacy.vic.gov.au > Publications
