Cats get Alzheimer’s too
Researchers have discovered a feline form of Alzheimer’s Disease which could explain why some elderly cats seem forgetful.
Post mortem examinations of cats have revealed a build-up of a key
protein in the brain’s nerve cells. This blocks nerve signals being
processed in the brain, researchers from the US and Britain have
reported.
Dr Danielle Gunn-Moore from Edinburgh’s Royal School of Veterinary
Studies said the best way to avert feline Alzheimer’s was to give cats
companionship and stimulation.
“If the owner plays with the cat, it is good for both human and cat,”
she said.
