Catholic Health election call for elderly Australians
Catholic Health Australia (CHA) has released election policies aimed at reducing healthcare costs and improving access for chronically ill and elderly people.
They include a new MediLink system whereby patients discharged from hospital with a diagnosed chronic condition would receive up to a $1,000 to meet the ongoing rehabilitation, community care and support services necessary to enable them to have security and better certainty.
The new MediLink voucher could be designed as a means tested benefit so that those able to contribute can still do so but chronically ill people generally will not go without services due to the rising costs of healthcare.
CHA has also designed a Continuum of Life Care Plan whereby the Commonwealth Government will take responsibility for the health, aged care and social support of elderly Australians over 75 years of age.
