Castlemaine the hot rod capital for baby boomer hotrodders

Castlemaine could become the hot rod capital of Australia with a plan to develop a retirement village for ageing local hot rod legends.

In what is believed to be an Australian first, Castlemaine Rod Club members are proposing to turn a 100-acre green fields site into a purpose-built retirement complex for people who just cannot stop revving.

Working party member Larry O’Toole, who has published Australian Street Rodding Magazine from Castlemaine for the past 30 years, said the proposed complex would include permanent as well as daily residential accommodation for hot rod industry retirees, along with a rod museum, training workshops, engineering testing and certification facilities and other educational and community spaces.
