Both carrots and Popeye’s favourite food – spinach – can help people see more clearly, according to new research.
Eating plenty of yellow or dark leafy vegetables apparently lowers the risk of the development of cataracts because of their concentration of both vitamins and nutrients.
A 10-year study of 2,000 women by US researchers published in the ‘Archives of Ophthamology’ demonstrated the protective effect in the vegetables of lutein, a yellow pigment that can protect the eyes against damage caused by ageing.
