Bus Buddies helps Lismore wheelchair users

Posted
by DPS

Bus Buddies is an innovative Lismore-based program that provides small group outings and activities to people using a wheelchair.

It is open to people:

  • who have a disability and are aged 30 to 65
  • AND who are affected by social isolation
  • AND who live in the Lismore Local Government Area (New South Wales)

New clients can self-refer or service providers can make a referral on their behalf. People who are newly referred are visited in their own home so that their eligibility can be assessed and so that their needs and interests can be discussed.

The program is designed to appeal to a wide range of interests and differing abilities so that clients select the activities that appeal to them and don’t necessarily go on every outing.

Activities include going to stage shows, local places of interest such as the Alstonville maze and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, river cruises, meals out at local restaurants, and 10-pin bowling.

If you would like more information, contact the coordinator, Sheila Pring, from the Lismore Social Support Program, at sheila@nrct.org
