Last week, aged care service provider, Bupa, held an award ceremony which saw 47 Bupa general mangers from around the country vying for the title of Facility of the Year and General Manger of the Year, 2010.

There were 9 category awards:

  • Continuous Improvement
  • Resident Satisfaction
  • Staff Satisfaction
  • Staff Dedication
  • Customer Service
  • Making a Difference
  • Outstanding care
  • Personal Best
  • Facility of the Year

All category winners were nominated for General Manager of the Year, a peer decision, determined by vote on the night.

Jenny Foley from Bupa Greensborough, (VIC) won the Continuous Improvement and General Manager of the Year Award 2010. She was recognised for outstanding leadership, having developed her home into a flagship for Bupa Care Services.

Sandra McKenny, general manger of Bupa Dural (NSW) took out the Facility of the Year Award. She was credited with building a dedicated team of people, committed to delivering the best care to residents. She was also recognised for developing ties with the local community including the recent Pet-Fest fundraiser that made $5,000 for Queensland disaster relief.

This week, 25 new Registered Nurses will enter Bupa facilities around the country as part of the Bupa Graduate Nurse Program.

The program, run in conjunction with The College of Nursing is designed to attract recent graduate nurses to the aged care industry, giving them hands on clinical exposure as well as professional development sessions.  In addition the graduates are offered the opportunity to commence a three year post graduate certificate in aged care, funded by Bupa.
