Build villages closer to city

New South Australian retirement housing should be built near the city instead of in developing suburbs, an expert says.
“More and more retirement villages are being built on the fringe areas of the city. It’s putting more and more pressure on establishing suburbs for services,” Retirement Village Association SA chairman, Mark Prosser, told The Advertiser.
“That can be a bit of a strain on services provided by the council and government,” he added. However, property developer, Theo Maras, added elderly people living in the city would have access to a range of retail and lifestyle facilities.
“If you live in the city, which is only one square mile, you’re only seven minutes from everything,” he explained.
“We hope that the range of events on offer continue to entice elderly people to travel into the city and contribute to the revitalisation of [their communities],” he added.
