Broadcast discussing Community Visitors Scheme
Health providers in aged care and home care are invited to a free online broadcast discussing the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS).
The program ‘Fostering social inclusion through the Community Visitors Scheme’ was produced by the Aged Care Channel (ACC) and the Australian Government Department of Social Services and will be available to watch on Wednesday 30 September 2015 at 2:15pm.
The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a free service funded by the Australian Government with the aim to reduce the prevalence of social isolation in older Australians.
CVS is available to recipients of Australian Government subsidised residential aged care services or Home Care Packages who have been identified by their aged care provider, a family member, friend, or themselves as experiencing or at risk of social isolation.
The CVS provides one-on-one visits by approved volunteers to residential and home care recipients and group visits in residential aged care.
The ACC broadcast features a panel discussion about the benefits of participating in the Community Visitors Scheme, showcase real-life case studies of the CVS in action, and take calls from service providers to understand their experience of the CVS.
The panel also discusses who is eligible for CVS, obligations under the Aged Care Act 1997 and police checks for CVS volunteers.
