Brisbane breast cancer patients may find some relief
Doctors at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) say a new pathology machine may cut the need for breast cancer sufferers to undergo multiple operations.
The Queensland government says the hospital is the first in the world to use the new machine. The PAH director of pathology, Dr Glenn Francis, says the machine allows pathologists to more thoroughly test samples taken from lumps and other tissue removed from patients.
Dr Francis says the equipment can potentially deliver big improvements to patient treatment. “They will know whether they have to have the lymph nodes taken out or not,” he said.
