Brain size clue to Alzheimer’s onset

Alzheimer’s disease can be predicted up to 10 years before its onset by measuring the size of a person’s brain, researchers have found.
The Age reported that the US study of 65 patients – published in the journal Neurology – used magnetic resonance imaging to examine the cortex which is the area of the brain typically affected by the disease.
It found more than half of those with the smallest cortex measurements went on to develop Alzheimer’s disease within seven to 10 years. None of the patients with the largest cortex developed the disease.
This news follows the breakthrough of the revolutionary vaccine, which could be available in Australia in two years, to help halt or even reverse the onslaught of Alzheimer’s disease.
