Boost in Dementia Care Funding
Sixteen organisations around Australia will receive $2.28 million new funding for research and education efforts and improving the provision of practical care and support to people with dementia, their carers and families.
Speaking at the launch of Dementia Awareness Month, the Minister for Ageing, Senator Santo Santoro, said the funding would support the development of dementia assistance projects in various metropolitan, regional and rural centres.
Projects include a mobile dementia information service in central and western New South Wales, an Adelaide project to develop and trial better support for people with younger onset dementia, and an advocacy project to help protect the rights of people with dementia in Tasmania.
The funding is in addition to other recent Government funding announcements, including $7 million to kick-start a national collaborative dementia research effort, and $1.12 million to support 41 community-based dementia support and education projects.
