Bluecare is a Queensland icon – officially

Not-for-profit Queensland aged care provider, Blue Care, has been nominated as one of the state’s top 150 icons.

The organisation has been included among 30 inventions or innovations pioneered by Queenslanders to make the 300-strong shortlist.

The competition is part of a Queensland government initiative to celebrate the state’s 150th birthday.

Blue Care was founded in 1953 as the Blue Nursing Service and has grown into one of Australia’s biggest providers of community health and residential aged care.

The group’s executive director, Stephen Muggleton, said Blue Care was honoured to be listed alongside other Queensland icons such as Qantas, Moreton Bay and XXXX beer.

Queenslanders are able to vote at http://www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au/consultqld/index.cfm?go=consultonline.viewIssue&activityID=198

Voting closes on 30 April.
