Blue Care executive director Robyn Batten says Mackay Regional Council has approved the redevelopment of the Homefield home, and early works have begun on site.

“This exciting redevelopment will revitalise older buildings to create a modern environment for residents and staff,” Ms Batten says.

“It will also provide a significant boost for the Mackay community, with more than 100 local tradespeople expected to be employed during the next 18-24 months for the building works.

“The new-look facility will comprise 56 refurbished bedrooms, plus a new 18-bed Memory Support Unit extension for the specialised care of people living with dementia.”

According to Ms Batten, Blue Care is funding the redevelopment with the support of funds from generous local donors and bequestors.

“The generosity of the local community will support the creation of an onsite day respite centre that can be used by residents at the residential aged care facility, as well as community clients.

“This supports Blue Care’s vision to consolidate our Mackay services onto the one site at Homefield, which will complement our person-centred service model, Blue CareTailor Made.

“The model commits us to providing clients with seamless access to our range of community, respite and residential services in Mackay and to ensuring the services are tailor made to their individual needs.”

Early works have started on site, in preparation for the broader redevelopment due to commence in June.

“The new Homefield facility will aim to meet the ever-changing needs of the Mackay population, and the expectations of people requiring aged care now and into the future,” Ms Batten says.
