Blue Care gets go-ahead for new facility at Stafford in Brisbane
Queensland’s largest non-profit health and aged-care provider Blue Care won State Government approval for aged and community care facilities at Stafford Heights, north of Brisbane.
Blue Care’s development application for the six hectare parcel of land, which the non-profit bought for $6.8m in January 2005, was called in by the State Government in April this year after Brisbane City Council rejected the plans.
Blue Care’s Stafford Heights development will ultimately provide a total of 192 aged-care beds, 36 serviced apartments, 164 independent living units and a range of health support services such as community nursing, allied health and respite
Blue Care executive director, Stephen Muggleton, said the decision was a ‘win for common sense’.
“Reasonable tracts of land to build aged-care facilities in south-east Queensland are scarce, particularly in areas where the aged population is proportionately high,” he said.
