Australia’s World War 1 records on the Internet
The Prime Minister has launched a project which is placing the wartime records of WW1 Australian soldiers online.
Since February the records have been progressively added to the web, allowing relatives to find out more about their family members who served in the War. About 12.3 million pages have been digitalised by the National Archives in Canberra.
The records cover the 376,000 Australians who served in the war, out of a total population then of only five million.
Entire WW1 service records will be available, and some include letters to and from next of kin of soldiers listed as killed or missing in action.
The records are available at www.naa.gov.au
