Australian National Audit Office gives tick to Community Aged Care Packages
The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) has reported favourably on the administration of the Aged Care Packages Program administered by the Department of Health and Ageing, in its audit report No. 38 which has been tabled in Parliament.
It considers that the Department has performed effectively in increasing the number of new places, relating with other Aged Care Act funded places and meeting varying regional needs for services.
ANAO has recommended:
. greater consistency in practices of state and territory offices with their regional planning and assessment roles, program management and approaches to monitoring outcomes;
. using Community Care Grants to stimulate extension of CACP services;
. improving monitoring of service provider performance; and
. improving reporting to Parliament about unmet need and provider’s meeting their responsibilities.
