Australian Hearing opens new centres

Australian Hearing has opened a new centre at Horsham, Victoria, to meet the local demand for hearing services.

Minister for Human Services, Tanya Plibersek, said the new centre was part of the Gillard Labor Government’s commitment to deliver improved services to rural and regional Australia.

“The new hearing centre in Horsham will give local people who suffer from hearing problems access to the latest technologies and services,” she said.

“More than 60% of people aged over 60 suffer from some sort of hearing loss. This increases to about 70% of the population once we hit 70.”

She said a number of hearing products will be available at the new centre, which will help hearing impaired people go about their daily lives.

Australian Hearing was one of the largest providers of hearing and rehabilitation services for, pensioners, veterans and indigenous people in the community.

Ms Plibersek said the centre would provide hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings, access to digital hearing device technology, repair and maintenance services.

“Hearing services at the centre will be fully subsidised for many Australian pensioners and veterans,” said Ms Plibersek.

Ms Plibersek recommended that local people in their 60s get a hearing check every two years and discuss the options available for managing a hearing loss.

Australian Hearing Horsham is located at Shop 1a, Horsham Plaza, 36 Darlot Street, Horsham. To book a free screening call (03) 5382 3526 or 131 797.

Ms Plibersek also opened a new Australian Hearing centre in Blacktown, saying that the new concept-store style centre, located in the Westpoint Shopping Centre, was the first of its kind for Australia Hearing in Australia.

She said the concept-store design showcased hearing products including such as Bluetooth devices, alarm clocks that vibrate and flash, digital hearing aids and touch-screen hearing tests, in brightly lit display cases.

The Centre would provide hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings, access to digital hearing device technology, repair and maintenance services
