Australian Centre for Economic Research on Health
A new research centre, the Australian Centre for Economic Research on Health, has been established at the Australian National University.
It will initially focus on investigating the impact of private health insurance on public hospitals.
Spokesman for the centre, Jim Butler, said that researchers will look at whether people who buy private health insurance actually use it or whether they are just purchasing private health insurance as a mechanism to avoid the Medicare tax levy surcharge.
