As you age, your perceptions of ageing will likely change, according to American ageing experts. According to a recent telephone survey of Americans, the answer to ‘how old is old?’ depends on the age of the person being asked. People born in the 80s and 90s believe 62 years of age is old.

According to a recent telephone survey of Americans, the answer to ‘how old is old?’ depends on the age of the person being asked.
People born in the 80s and 90s believe 62 years of age is old, whereas Generation X, born between 1964 and 1970, believe people aged 71 years and above are old.
The survey also shows baby boomers believe people aged 77 years and older are considered old, while the Greatest Generation – those who lived through World War II – believes people aged 81 years and older are old.
However, with varying opinions arising, it seems there is no definitive age to explain when old age begins, according to the commissioners of the survey, America’s Home Instead Senior Care.
The poll also shows a difference in age perception between genders, with women pushing the boundaries further than men. Women believe old age begins at 75 years, while men believe the tell-tale signs of growing old do not show until 70 years of age.
Despite putting a number on old age, many of the respondents reveal they want to live to at least 92 years of age.
