The dementia day respite program at Clearview Manor Serviced Apartments, which launched in December, will complement the village’s existing dementia-friendly permanent care.

It allows people living with the symptoms of dementia to experience the support, activities and community on offer at Clearview Manor on a flexible, daily basis.

For just $50 per day, guests receive personalised care, a nutritious morning and afternoon tea and hot lunch, and have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities including bingo, puzzles, exercises, gardening and outings in the private village bus.

According to Clearview Manor’s on call registered nurse, Di Talbot, the program is well suited for those who may be suffering from the symptoms of dementia, such as memory loss, confusion and withdrawal, but do not feel ready for permanent care.

“It allows them to spend time in a stimulating, supportive and secure environment that is tailored to their needs while also giving their carers some time for themselves,” she says.

“Our staff specialise in caring for people with dementia and we’ve found that family members have peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are being well looked after throughout the day.”

Clearview Manor’s boutique size, beautiful garden surrounds and recently modernised interior also serve as significant draw cards for locals who are searching for respite care for their relatives.

“With just 21 apartments, the staff members know every resident and their families and the atmosphere is very warm and inviting, especially after the recent upgrades to our facilities, apartments and gardens,” Ms Talbot continues.

“There’s a real sense of being part of a family and we’re delighted to extend that to day respite guests.”

For owner and operator RetireAustralia, the program is an ideal way to expand on the village’s existing range of care and respite services and to cater to the current and future needs of the local community.

Ian Ramsay, RetireAustralia’s General Manager South Australia, says, “With the number of seniors in Australia expected to double by 2040, it’s becoming clear that we need to start working on solutions that will help people to age comfortably and well in the manner of their choosing.

“The dementia day respite program at Clearview Manor provides a unique service within the aged care community and it signifies a move towards a more diverse offering of care-related services across RetireAustralia’s portfolio in the coming years.”
