ANF Campaign “Because We Care”

Posted
by DPS

Victorians are being asked to keep the pressure on the Federal Government to fix aged care by emailing Federal Finance Minister and Member for the Victorian electorate of Melbourne, Linsday Tanner, to make 2010-11 Budget – the Aged Care Budget – by addressing understaffing, low wages and stretched resources in nursing homes and hostels.

The email campaign coincides with the national Australian Nursing Federation’s (ANF) Because We Care television and radio commercials which ask Australians to lobby their local Federal Member for more aged care funding.

The Federal ANF Because We Care community campaign aims to:

  • introduce mandated minimum aged care nurse resident ratios (one nurse to seven residents)
  • pay fair wages to registered nurses and personal care workers who earn up to $300 less in the private aged care sector compared to their same colleagues in the public aged care sector
  • recognise the professional skills of personal care workers through a national licensing system
  • introduce a guarantee that tax payer funding is used for nursing care
