Ageing, disability and mental health support
Social inclusion for people marginalised by age, disability and mental illness across Victoria is receiving a boost thanks to State Trustees Australia Foundation’s annual Grassroots Grants.
With a focus on supporting the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the annual grants program is providing more than $200,000 to 22 organisations.
State Trustees Australia Foundation, which is funded through bequests and donations, provides the grants annually.
State Trustees general manager client services, Melanie Lewis, says the priority this year was to support sector reform and strengthen opportunities for people marginalised by age, disability or mental illness to participate in social, economic and family life.
“These initiatives will support marginalised Victorians to exercise choice and control in how they engage with, and how they help inform, the services that support them,” Ms Lewis says.
“The grants are part of State Trustees Australia Foundation’s approach to promoting social participation at a strategic and grassroots level.
“This approach includes the establishment of the Ageing, Disability and Mental Health Collaborative Panel, bringing together peak bodies to engage cross-sector dialogue and identify funding gaps and priorities for the grassroots grants and for larger grant opportunities,” she says.
Celebrating its 20th year, State Trustees Australia Foundation provides more than $2 million to over 250 projects through grassroots grants. A further $10 million has also been provided directly to charitable organisations.
