Aged going in later, staying longer in residential aged care
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has released a report on Residential Aged Care In Australia, 2006-07.
It shows that Australia has about 170,000 aged care places.
Seventy one per cent of residents need high level care, up from 58% in 1998. More than 50% of residents are over 85 years of age.
The average length of stay has risen to 2.8 years, with 3.2 years for women and 2 years for men.
