Aged care target exceeded
The Australian Government has exceeded its end of 2007 target of providing 108 operational aged care places for every 1,000 people aged 70 and over, the Minister for Ageing, Mr Christopher Pyne, says.
A stocktake of Australia’s aged care places showed the total operational ratio had reached 109.3 by 30 June.
“This sets the highest rate of aged care ever provided in this country. The target was reached six months early,” Mr Pyne says.
At the same time, the operational ratio for aged care provided in the community had reached 21.7, which was well above the official target of 20 places by the end of 2007.
“This means that more people than ever before can get aged care where they most prefer – in the comfort of their own homes,” Mr Pyne says.
